Behind the Seams | The Art of Our Block Prints

Every print you see in a Rujuta Sheth piece is born from countless hours of design, craft and care. We don't just choose prints—we design them. Scroll through for a behind-the-scenes look at how our prints are born.

Our in-house design team creates original print sketches inspired by our season themes, nature, and everyday textures. Each print is then sent to our master block carvers in Jaipur at Joshua India, where the artwork is painstakingly hand-carved into individual wooden blocks—one for each color in the design.

These wooden blocks are soaked in oil for days to soften and preserve the wood, prepping them for the precise task ahead.

Our team travels to Jaipur 2-3 times a year to sample new prints, test colors, and witness the magic firsthand. As a designer, this is the most exciting part for me—watching a flat CAD transform into vibrant texture on fabric.

Color trays are carefully mixed by hand to match our custom palette. The printers then begin the test runs—we often try 10-15 color variations per print until we find the perfect combination. It's labor-intensive. It's slow. But that's what makes it so special.
